NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, J. K. Sharma, and Licensing and Tehbazari Committee member Rakesh Rajoura have alleged that Mayor Arti Mehra was “misleading” the Capital’s citizens on the issue of allotment of tehbazari vendors’ sites. In a statement, they said the Mayor’s statement that the MCD had no space to provide tehbazari sties was nothing but a “political stunt” to gain mileage keeping in view the coming Delhi Assembly elections. The two said they had consulted the Licensing and Tehbazari Committee chairman Shyam Sharma in the matter and according to him the civic body had already identified 90 per cent of the tehbazari sites and the work would be completed by August 31. Moreover, he also informed that for the remaining 20,000 applications it had been decided that if no site was available in one ward then sites should be made available in other wards to ensure that all applicants are allotted tehbazari sites, they added. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
