Held for murder

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old proclaimed bad character carrying a cash reward of Rs.50,000 on his head has been arrested at Kardampuri in the Capital’s trans-Yamuna area in connection with the murder of Saleem Pehalwan, who himself was involved in several criminal cases.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Rahis Ahmed alias Langra when he came to meet his acquaintance near a bus stop. He had been evading arrest for a long time. Rahis is the last of the six accused to be arrested in connection with the murder. Five persons -- Mohammed Akeel, Azhar, Tasleem, Saleem and Irshad -- were arrested earlier. All the accused are members of the Anwar Thakur gang of Meerut and allegedly hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Saleem Pehalwan for “defaming” their gang leader, the police said.
