MP asks Transco to include schools in domestic category
VIZIANAGARAM: Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana on Saturday said all political parties, setting politics aside, must discuss whether the country required nuclear energy or not.
He criticised the opposition parties for making the nuclear deal a political issue rather than thinking in terms of benefit to the nation. Mr. Satyanarayana was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Vidyut Bhavan at Dasannapeta here on Saturday.
He felt that development was possible with surplus power. On power cut, he said that due to deficit rainfall in catchment area hydel generation dwindled. Despite shortage, the State Government was buying power at Rs.12 to Rs.15 per unit and supplying the same to domestic use at Rs.1.45 per unit, he said.
The Minister said transmission losses that stood at 29 per cent before 2004 had come down to 21 per cent against the national average of 26 per cent and in Vizianagaram district it was a mere 6.5 per cent. He congratulated the Vizianagaram division of EPDCL on achieving ISO certificate. D.R.K. Prasad, Superintending Engineer (Operations), said 30 more sub-stations would be opened by March.
Lok Sabha member Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi asked the Transco to include schools in the domestic category. K. Veerabhadra Swamy, MLA, G. Srinivaulu Naidu, MLC, M. Geetha, municipal chairperson, P. Kanakamahalakshmi, ward councilor and B. Kishore, district Collector, were present.
