Shocked: Relatives of the murdered college girl wailing at the scene of offence in Tirupati on Saturday.

TIRUPATI: A second year B.Com student Rukmini was found murdered and her body thrown in the bushes abutting the Tirupati west railway station in the early hours of Saturday. Getting swiftly into action, the police have rounded up her classmate Ravi Teja and arrested him on charges of murder.

The cold-blooded murder sent shock waves by dawn in the western colonies of the city. The girl had left on Friday evening for tuition classes, but never returned home. Her parents, on being alerted by their kin about an unidentified corpse lying near the railway track, rushed to the spot and found the body damaged beyond recognition. The shapeless face appeared grotesque after apparently being smashed by a boulder. The girl’s mother and relatives burst into tears on seeing the body in a pool of blood.

Additional Superintendent of Police R.N. Ammi Reddy deputed special teams to various parts of the city, which tracked down Rukmini’s classmate Ravi Teja in no time. According to the police, the boy admitted to having killed the girl. He had reportedly confessed to the police that the girl had expressed her love to him, while he had no such interest.

But, when the girl started pestering him to marry her, he thought of eliminating her and executed it on Friday night.

Tirupati Urban Circle Inspector Sudhakar Reddy is investigating the case.
