Important post offices to function till 10 p.m.

CHENNAI: Important post offices in the city will function until 10 p.m., enabling customers to post registered letters without late fee.

The service was launched here on Monday at the Ashok Nagar post office.

The Adyar post office and the Mylapore post office on Kutcheri Road will function till 10 p.m. from Tuesday and the T. Nagar post office in Pondy Bazaar from Wednesday. At these post offices registered posts and Speed Post articles can be posted at the regular rates.

From this Sunday, the Mylapore post office will function on Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All counter services, similar to those available in the T. Nagar post office, will be available, said R. Venkataraman, senior superintendent of Post Offices, Chennai City Central Division.

Training session

To upgrade the skills of the Postal Department staff, a two-day training session for postal assistants working in the savings bank section was launched on Monday by M. S. Ramanujan, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region. The training, being imparted to 120 staff through the Indian Bank Management Academy for Growth and Excellence, aims at building inter-personnel management and public relations skills.
