Surya, Priya win titles

CHENNAI: Narayana Surya and S. Rathi Priya won the men’s and women’s singles titles in the State tennikoit championships here on Sunday. D. Samuvel and P. Ramya finished runners-up.

S. Kothandaraman, vice-president, Tamil Nadu Tennikoit Association, distributed the prizes.

The results:

Men: 1. Narayana Surya, 2. D. Samuvel, 3. S. Silambarasan; Women: 1. S. Rathi Priya, 2. P. Ramya, 3. G. Satyabama.

Junior boys: 1. S. Vignesh Karuguvel, 2. E. Arivazhagan, 3. E. Muthamizhan; Junior girls: 1. U. Madhu Bala, 2. R. Nithya, 3. S. Saranya.

Sub-junior boys: S. Pasupathy, 2. Satiyamoorthi, 3. M. Ramesh; Sub-junior girls: M. Nithyalakshmi, 2. M. Selvapriya, 3. K. Kayarthri.

Chess tournament

The Kamalam John Samuel memorial Hercules Turbo Drive Trophy State-level chess championships (under-8, 10, 12, 14 and 18) will be held at Ebenezer MHSS, Korattur, on August 2 and 3.

The B.Sc. Physical Education students of Madras Christian College will organise a mini-marathon race for school boys on August 15 (to observe abolishing of child labour) at 6.15 a.m.

U-16 selections

Those born on or after September 1, 1992 can register their names with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) office on or before August 4 (6 p.m.) for being considered for selection of the City round-robin league under-16 teams. The net selection will be held from August 6 to 8.

Registration forms can be had from the TNCA office from July 29 on all working days between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
