“YSR’s comments surprising”

HYDERABAD: Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu has clarified that the party would not pursue its political activities on the basis of “love or hatred” and he was opposed to the “wrong policies” adopted by the Congress Government.

Reacting strongly to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s remarks claiming Mr. Raghavulu developed “hatred” against the Congress Government for reasons unknown, the latter wondered how a senior leader like Dr. Reddy could make comments like a “layman.”

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Mr. Raghavulu clarified that CPI (M) supported the United Progressive Alliance Government and entered into understanding with the Congress on the basis of its policies in a transparent manner. Moreover, Dr. Reddy tried to project as if he (Mr. Raghavulu) alone was taking decisions on behalf of the party. Individuals would not take decisions in the party and the CPI (M) had committees at State and Central levels for chalking out the course of action, he said.

CPI State secretariat member K. Ramakrishna too objected the Chief Minister’s claims on being ready to forge an alliance with the Left parties. The Congress had betrayed the trust of the people by “buying” votes during the trust vote and the CPI was against entering into any understanding with the Congress in future, he said. The party was committed to continue its struggle against the policies of the State Government and it would work for bringing together like-minded forces to ensure the Congress’ defeat in the next elections, he said.
