Youth chased, murdered in Begumpet

HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old youngster, Anthony, who married his lover against the wishes of the latter’s family a month ago, was chased and murdered on the road at Begumpet by an assailant even as horrified passers-by watched on Tuesday evening.

The attacker lay in wait near Rahul Bajaj showroom since 4 p.m. As Anthony, working as executive for an air cargo office, started off for his house in Neredmet on his bike, the assailant wielding a sickle came from opposite direction and attacked him.

“The victim fell off the bike. He rose and started running for his life even as the attacker inflicted bleeding injury,” the Begumpet SI Ch. Sridhar told reporters quoting eyewitnesses. When some passers-by tried to come to Anthony’s rescue, the killer scared them away.

Later, he chased the executive, caught up with him after some distance and indiscriminately stabbed him before smashing the victim’s head with a boulder. Anthony fell in love with Varalaxmi of Brahmanwadi in Begumpet and married her though her parents were against it.

Police said that Varalaxmi’s brother Praveen too raised objection over the marriage. “We suspect the assailant was Praveen because descriptive particulars given by the eyewitnesses matched him,” the police said.
