MOP Vaishnav triumphs

Chennai: Host MOP Vaishnav College won the Dr. Sivanthi Adityan Trophy in VASPO 2008, a national-level inter-collegiate tournament held from July 26 to 28. The events included table tennis, volleyball and basketball.

MOP Vaishnav College won volleyball and table tennis. MOP and Jeppiar Engineering College shared the first place in basketball. The overall rolling trophy also went to MOP Vaishnav College.

In basketball, Jeppiar Engineering College and MOP Vaishnav College were declared joint winners, due to heavy rain. Ethiraj was placed third.

The results: Table tennis: MOP Vaishnav bt St. Joseph’s 2-1 (A.V. Niveditha bt C. Sriharini 11-2, 11-5, 11-3; U.V. Agni/ Nishanthi Kumaravel lost to C. Sriharini and D.V. Sneha 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-13, 10-12; Nishanthi Kumaravel bt D.V. Sneha 11-7, 11-5, 11-6); Stella Maris bt Ethiraj 2-0 (S. Kavitha beat S. Sandhya 11-6, 11-3, 11-2; S. Kavitha/ N. Sathyabama bt R. Sandhya and M. Sureka 11-2, 11-4, 11-6).

Placings: 1. MOP, 2. Stella Maris, 3. St. Joseph’s and 4. Ethiraj.

Volleyball: St. Joseph’s bt Ethiraj 26-24 25-23; S.R.M. bt MOP Vaishnav 26-24, 25-23; S.R.M. bt Ethiraj 25-23, 25-14; MOP bt St. Joseph’s 25-11; 25-13; St. Joseph’s bt S.R.M. University 25-21, 25-14; MOP bt Ethiraj 25-16; 25-22.
