VILLUPURAM: Age criterion for differently-abled persons to get government aid has been relaxed, according to Collector R. Palanisamy. Inaugurating a camp for identifying beneficiaries, he said the government had earlier decided that those who were over 45 years of age with 60 per cent disability were eligible to get a monthly assistance of Rs. 400. But, it had now announced that even those below 45 years of age could apply for the assistance. However, a committee comprising the Collector, Sub-Collector, District Rehabilitation Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer had to certify the beneficiaries. A total of 212 persons from Villupuram, Vanur and Sankarapuram taluks attended the camp. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
