Preparations on for coconut breaking fest

KARUR: Preparations are under way for the Adi festival at Sri Mahalakshmi Amman temple at Mettumahadanapuram near Kulithalai in the district on Sunday.

Several thousands from various parts of the State and also from Kerala and Karnataka would participate in the festival during which coconuts would be broke on the heads of hundreds of devotees as part of fulfillment of vows.

The temple is the hereditary deity for the 24 Manai Telugu Chettiars and the Kurumbas.

The temple administration is carrying out its work and preparations with regard to seasoning of the coconuts and administrative works have already commenced on the temple premises.

The devout too have begun their rituals with the birth of Adi and all is set for the festival at the temple.
