BENEFIT: Ariyalur Collector R. Sudalaikannan, right, at the meeting held on Thursday to select persons with disabilities for monthly relief. ARIYALUR: Eighty nine persons with disabilities were chosen for receiving monthly relief of Rs. 400 each under the Social Security Scheme during the Selection Committee meeting chaired by Collector R. Sudalaikannan. Going by the norm that the disabled applicants must possess national identity cards, the Committee selected beneficiaries below 45 years of age. The members comprised District Disabled Rehabilitation Officer N. Selvaraj, Deputy Director – Health M. Mohan, Social Security Scheme Tahsildar Rajathi and Ortho Specialist Kanmani. For those above the age limit, sanction is accorded at the level of Tahsildar. Of the 107 persons who had applied, 69 turned up before the Committee and 62 persons were selected. Twenty seven of the 28 persons who had applied on the spot were also chosen. The amount will be sent by money order from September. Mr. Sudalaikannan informed that the monthly meeting would be held at taluk offices on a rotational basis. The Committee would meet next in Senthurai taluk.
