Car catches fire on GST Road

IN action: A personnel dousing the fire in a car on GST Road on Thursday. —
TAMBARAM: Traffic on the arterial Grand Southern Trunk Road was affected in Chromepet for some time when a car caught fire on Thursday morning.
Police said P.Balaji was driving the car from Mylapore to Tambaram along with some relatives.
He had stopped the vehicle for a brief while near the GST Road - College Road intersection, when he noticed smoke emanating from the engine.
Alarmed, occupants of the car got down and in minutes a fire broke out. On information, a fire tender from the Tambaram Fire Control rushed to the spot and put out the fire. None was injured.
An electrical short circuit in the engine is reported to be the cause.
