Krishna Kiriti downs Arundhar for title

HYDERABAD: Krishna Kiriti of Postal defeated T. Arundhar (SCR) 11-8, 11-5, 11-4, 11-3 in the men’s singles final of the 22nd St. Paul’s annual State-ranking table tennis tournament here on Thursday.

The results (all finals): Men’s singles: Krishna Kiriti (Postal) bt T. Arundhar (SCR) 11-8, 11-5, 11-4, 11-3. Youth boys: P. Vignay Reddy (SPTTA) bt Aisa Afzal (SPTTA) 11-4, 11-6, 11-4, 11-4. Junior boys: Harsh A. Shah (SPTTA) bt A. Gowtham (AWA) 14-12, 10-12, 11-6, 6-11, 11-3, 11-9. Sub-junior boys: Gowtham Krishna (AWA) bt Md. Annas Ali (AWA) 11-5, 11-5, 11-7, 11-6. Cadet boys: Jagdish Krishna (AWA) bt D. Rahul (Rjy) 6-11, 5-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-4.

Women’s singles: Nikhat Banu (GSM) bt Prasanna Devi (YMCA) 11-1, 11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 10-12, 11-5. Junior girls: Nikhat Banu (GSM) bt K. Bhavana (YMCA) 11-4, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7. Sub-junior girls: K. Team championship: Boys: Chirec School ‘A’ bt St. Paul’s School ‘A’ 3-1.

Girls: Rosary School ‘A’ bt Little Flower ‘A’ 3-0.

Prathima shines

Bansi Prathima of India remained unbeaten in the nine-round World Schools chess championship which concluded in Singapore winning her final round game against Teo Gabriella of Singapore in the under-7 category on Wednesday.

Apart from winning the title, Prathima was awarded the Candidate Master title for her impressive performance. This is the first time that a player from Andhra has clinched such an honour.

Microsoft advances

Microsoft entered the semifinals in the team event of the TCS tennis tournament for corporate groups with a 2-0 win over Tata Consultancy Services here.

The results: Men: Team event: Quarterfinals: Microsoft bt TCS 2-0 (Amital bt Prasad 8-6; Murali & Ravi bt Damodar & Hemanth 8-2).

Individual event: Kannan (GVK) bt Eswar (Satyavani) 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles semifinals: Srinath & Eswar (Satyavani) bt Murali & Ravi (Microsoft) 6-3, 6-3.

Shruti moves up

G. Shruti blanked S. P. Sowmya 6-0 in the girls’ under-10 pre-quarterfinals of the Modali Krishana Murthy sub-junior tennis tournament here.

The results: Boys: U-14: Pre-quarterfinals: Ch.V. Ajit bt Abhishek 6-1; Apuroop Reddy bt Taha Kapadia 6-5(4); S.M. Osama bt Harsh Soni 6-0; Gurupreetam bt K.V. Kaustub 6-0.

Girls: U-10: Pre-quarterfinals: G. Shruti bt S.P. Sowmya 6-0; Saranya Nagpal bt Snikitha 6-0; S. Rachana Reddy bt Hema Tolani 6-2; S. Nidhi bt Shawna 6-0.

HPS (Begumpet) wins

Hyderabad Public School (Begumpet) defeated HPS (Ramanthapur) 2-0 in the under-14 final of the Sunfeast ISF inter-School football tournament at the Trimulgherry Village grounds here on Thursday.

Harish and K. Anil scored for the winner.

In the u-16 final, St. Andrews High School got the better of Government High School (Trimulgherry) 3-2 with Srivatsa netting a brace and Mukesh one goal. Paul Subramaniam and Hanumanth Rao reduced the margin.

Special prizes: U-16: Best goalkeeper: Solomon (St. Patrick’s); Best forward: Mukesh (St. Andrew’s).

U-14: Best goalkeeper: Nelson (HPS (Ramanthapur)); Best forward: Harish (HPS (Begumpet)).
