Dharwad to host music festival in September

DHARWAD: Dharwad will host a three-day national music festival from September 12 as part of the 16th death anniversary of legendary vocalist Mallikarjun Mansur.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting here on Friday. It was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain, who is ex-officio Chairman of Dr. Mallikarjun Mansur Trust.

The meeting also decided to organise the “Mallikarjun Samman”presentation ceremony and music festival on December 31, birth anniversary of Dr. Mansur. A decision on giving away “Yuva Puraskar” in his memory to artistes aged below 35 was taken.

Secretary of the trust K.H. Chennur informed the meeting that the State Government had released Rs. 11 lakh for the trust’s activities this year.

The meeting decided to install an audio system and organise an exhibition of photographs in the building housing the trust office. Sub-committees for finalising the list of artistes for the programmes of the trust were constituted during the meeting.

Participating in the discussion, member of the trust Sadanand Kanavalli stressed he need for organising sugam sangeet camps along with other activities of the trust. Former chairman of the Karnataka State Sangeet Nritya Academy Rajashekhar Mansur, member Neela M. Kodli, and Assistant Director of Information Department P.S. Hiremath were present.
