VIZIANAGARAM: Sainik School, Korukonda, here was presented overall championship by Col. R.S. Nehra, Inspecting Officer, Sainik Schools Society at the closing ceremony of the South Zone Sainik Schools Sports Tournament on Friday evening. This was the seventh consecutive year that the school bagged the championship. Teams from Sainik School, Amaravathi Nagar (Tamil Nadu), Sainik School, Kazhakootam (Kerala), Sainik School, Bijapur, Sainik School, Kodagu (Karnataka) and Sainik School, Korukonda (Andhra Pradesh) participated in the tournament that began with a colourful march-past on the sprawling school ground here on July 28. Captain (IN) P.K. Singh, Principal of the school, inaugurated the tournaments that were held in five categories – basketball, hockey and volleyball (juniors), football (juniors and sub-juniors). The winning teams will play at the inter-zonal Sainik Schools meet and subsequently participate in Subroto Cup in football and Nehru Cup in Hockey, according to a school press release. While Sainik School, Amaravathi Nagar (Tamil Nadu) team stood second, Sainik School, Kazhakootam (Kerala), Sainik School, Bijapur and Sainik School, Kodagu (Karnataka) bagged third, fourth and fifth places. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
