Surjeet’s death condoled

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has condoled the death of veteran leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet.

In a condolence message, Haryana CPI (M) secretary Inderjit Singh said the Left and progressive movement in general and the CPI (M) in particular would continue to feel the personal warmth of Comrade Surjeet’s touch as he was chiefly instrumental in organising the rural poor and other sections before and after the formation of Haryana as a separate State.

Mr. Surjeet, he recalled, looked after the party’s organisational affairs for a long time in this region and while doing so he had the “unique precision of the social contradictions in all the dimensions and taught us how these contradictions should be utilised to forge the unity of toiling agrarian poor who continued to be under deep alien influences of caste and other feudal values”.

“To ensure that the CPI (M) acquired a definite base, Mr. Surjeet placed maximum emphasis on identification, cultivation and development of capable cadres as whole-time leaders of the party,” Mr. Inderjit Singh added.
