BANGALORE: Agricultural Marketing and Sugar Minister Shivaraj S. Tangadagi told the Legislative Council on Friday that Renuka Sugars Ltd. had informed the Government that it was ready to pay more to farmers on the sugarcane in Belgaum district supplied to it, than the support price fixed by the statutory authority. Replying to K.T. Srikanthe Gowda (Janata Dal-Secular) on the subject during zero hour, the Minister said the State-owned Mysore Sugar Factory in Mandya district and Malaprabha Cooperative Sugar Factory in Belgaum district were paying Rs. 160 and Rs. 171.20 a ton, more than what the price fixed by the authorities. On giving minimum support price on tomato, Mr. Tangadagi said the price for tomato particularly in Kolar and Chickaballapur districts was coming down. It has been decided to pay the difference amount to farmers, if their tomato was sold at less than Rs. 200 per quintal in the premises of APMCs, provided it was of fair average quality. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
