SIMI activist held in Belgaum

Belgaum: The Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested Tanveer Mulla (31), an activist of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), near the district stadium here on Saturday.

He was arrested on charge of committing offences under Sections 153 (A) and (B) of the Indian Penal Code; and 18 and 15 of The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

“He is a SIMI activist”, said Superintendent of Police Sonia Narang, while releasing Tanveer’s photograph at a press conference here on Saturday.

With the arrest of Tanveer, the number of SIMI activists arrested in the district has gone up to seven. The others arrested — Munroz, Liyaquat Ali, Nasir Patel, Imtiyaz Dalayat, Nadeem and Izaz Khan — are in judicial custody.
