Guwahati: The Assam government on Saturday ordered action against a police officer who allegedly issued a citizenship certificate to a foreigner. Chairing a high level meeting here, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi ordered action in the wake of a High Court ruling which upheld the order of the Foreigners Tribunal against Abdul Hasim who was declared a foreigner by the tribunal. He was later certified by the police as a citizen. Mr. Gogoi expressed serious concern over the police action and ordered departmental proceedings against him within a week.— PTI
