Sanitation in a bad shape

Sanitation is in a sorry state of affairs at Sanivarapupet area of Eluru town. The drainage system is in a deplorable condition and there is no proper channel to dispose of garbage. Owing to lack of litterbins, people are throwing garbage on roads. As a result, the roads became breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Stray dogs and pigs are making the lives of people miserable. Since many streetlights are not working, people are unable to come out of their homes during night times. Despite several complaints, there is no response from the local officials.

I request the authorities to give priority to address these problems.

Importance of Telugu

The demand for the award of the classical language status to Telugu has been there for a long time. Owing to certain political reasons, the matter remained unattended. In this context, there is a need to refer that Telugu is the most spoken language not only in India, but in a majority of countries in the world, where the Telugu people have domiciled long back. Meetings are being regularly held under the banner of ‘World Telugu Association.’ This is clearly indicating the real status of this sophisticated language.

In the view of the above, the honourable Chief Minister is sincerely appealed to use his good offices to fulfil his promise of getting classical language status to Telugu.

Name varsity after Tikkana

The proposed new university at Nellore town may kindly be christened after the great poet Tikkana, one of the three authors of the epic Mahabharatha in Telugu. As in the case of the district being named as Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district, the university may well be named after the immortal poet, as ‘Vikrama Simhapuri Tikkana University.’

The words Vikrama and Simhapuri are apt and proper, as Nellore had been called as Simhapuri (abode of lions), while Vikrama is a synonym for courage. I request the authorities to consider this suggestion.

Worth watching

The newly-launched Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel is a real solace for senior citizens. The channel is airing live the programmes being held at Tirumala and Tirupati besides telecasting various ‘sevas’ being performed to the Lord during special occasions.

The channel is also guiding pilgrims on how to reach Tirumala and various facilities available for them at Tirupati and Tirumala. Moreover, the channel is promoting Telugu language and culture by airing programmes like musical concerts, classical dance performances and recital of poems and verses.
