Youth killed in clash

PUDUKOTTAI: In a row between two sections of relatives of a family over performing the last rites for a dead person near Annavasal, a youth was allegedly murdered on Saturday. Seven persons have been arrested and remanded to custody.

Police said that an old woman Karuppayi died on Friday and her relatives picked up a quarrel over performing the last rites. Although the issue was settled down, a group allegedly attacked C. Sadaiyappan (21) with deadly weapons at Annavasal. He was rushed to the Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed.

The Annavasal police registered a case and arrested V. Pannerselvam (20), his father C. Vellaichamy (55); P. Pitchai (26); C. Senthilkumar (26); K. Pandiarajan (20); A. Krishnan (30) and C. Muthukalai (56).
