BANGALORE: Ten educational institutions on Monday urged the Karnataka High Court to step in and permit them to switch over to teaching in English medium. The institutions said they had approached the court after the July 2, 2008, verdict of the Full Bench of the Karnataka High Court. The Full Bench had held as unconstitutional the State policy compelling students in primary schools (first standard to fifth standard) to study in Kannada. The petitioners said they had only agreed to teach in Kannada as the State had said that was its policy. The court disposed off the matter by directing the State to consider from the next academic year the applications for starting English-medium schools. — Staff Reporter © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
