Minor ends life at boys’ home CRIME NOTES

BANGALORE: A minor boy, on Monday, committed suicide at the Government Boys’ Home in the Wilson Garden police station limits. Sources in Child Welfare Committee said that the boy, who is from Benkikere in Channagiri, was traced at the Bangalore City Railway Station recently and brought to the boys’ home. The boy had reportedly run away from his house 20 days ago.

The boy is said to have committed suicide at around 7 p.m. on Monday. The source said the post-mortem would be conducted on Tuesday. The boy’s parents had been informed about the suicide.

Five injured

Five workers received injuries when a steam boiler exploded at a hotel at the Kempe Gowda Bus Station here on Monday. As every big bang sends chill waves among people in the wake of the recent serial blasts, this explosion too created commotion for a while among passengers at the central bus station.

The police said the steam boiler being used for cooking exploded at Hotel Swathi on the first floor of the bus station complex.

Following the blast, Jayalakshmamma (40), Lalitha (40), Pampapathi (21), Hanumantha (21) and Lakshmanamurthy (21), all workers of the hotel, received injuries. They were admitted to a city hospital and are said to be out of danger. Upparpet police have registered a case.

Smothered to death

A two-and-a-half-year-old girl was smothered to death allegedly by her father in Subramanyapura Police limits on Sunday.

The police gave the name of the accused as Mahadeva Kumar, an autorickshaw driver and resident of Srinivasa Colony. It is learnt that Mahadeva and his wife Shobha used to quarrel frequently, and on Sunday after another quarrel Shobha walked out of the house.

When she returned, she did not find Lavanya and when questioned, Mahadeva told her that the girl was in the autorickshaw. To her horror, Shobha found Lavanya dead inside the three-wheeler.

Incidentally, Lavanya, who was staying with her grandparents in Deepanjalinagar had been brought home by Mahadeva on Sunday. Subramanyapura Police have registered a case of murder on the complaint given by Shobha.

Stabbed

Three persons stabbed Abdul Lateef (18) to death in Byatarayanapura Police limits on Sunday.

A resident of Kasturinagar on Pipeline Road, Lateef was said to be studying II PUC. Byatarayanapura Police have registered a case of murder.

Two drowned

Two teenaged boys were drowned in Ullalu Tank in Tavarekere Police limits on Sunday while another managed to come ashore.

The police gave the names of the dead as Sharath Kumar and Suresh, aged 18, and the survivor as Parthiban, all residents of Hale Guddadahalli. The three visited Suresh’s sister at Ullalu, had lunch and were on their way home. When they saw the tank, they ventured to swim.

While the two were drowning, Rajamma, who was washing clothes, threw a sari towards the boys and Parthiban, caught hold of it and came out. Tavarekere Police have registered cases of unnatural death.

Three killed

Three persons were killed in as many accidents that were reported in the city on Sunday and in the early hours of Monday.

Vinod Pai (28), a native of Kerala and resident of BTM Layout here, died after he dashed his two-wheeler against a lorry in Madiwala Traffic limits in the early hours of Monday. The accident occurred on Hosur Road.

In another accident reported in Adugodi traffic limits, Gyan Chand (26), resident of Suddagunte Palya, died on the spot and two were injured when the motorcycle they were riding on hit a stationary truck on Agara Road on Sunday. The names of the injured were given as Ranjit and Chandgi.

Sheik Syed Ahmed (24), a resident of Subbedar Palya, Yeshwanthpur, who was riding pillion on a scooter, died on the spot when an autorickshaw hit the two-wheeler in R.T. Nagar Traffic limits on Sunday. The accident occurred near M.S. Ramaiah Hostel, the police said.
