TIRUCHI: R. Nishanth and E.M. Jose Mithun scalped four apiece as Tiruchi dismissed Tuticorin for 79 and gained a first innings lead of 101 runs on the opening day of their pre-quarterfinal encounter in the TNCA under-22 inter-district cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

At Nagapattinam: Vellore 160 in 55.5 overs (Rajkumar five for 42) vs. Nagapattinam 76 for three in 32 overs.

At Tiruvarur: Tiruvarur 183 in 58 overs (Sivakumar 40, Suthesh four for 30, Gopi four for 38) vs. Dindigul 108 for three in 31 overs (Elamaran 51 not out).

At Nagercoil: Erode 189 in 37.5 overs (R. Gowtham 92, B. Kavin 43, W. Antony Doss six for 49, H. Simeon four for 34) and 11 for no loss vs. Kanyakumari 144 in 43.2 overs (H. Simeon 51 not out, R. Udayakumar six for 29, S. Nithyanandam three for 27).

Vijay Nichani of Champions Billiards Academy (Coimbatore) won both his Group D league encounters in the fifth Chinthamani Memorial open snooker tournament at the S.S. Sports Academy in Erode on Tuesday.

In another keenly contested Group B clash, local hope Eswaramoorthy scored a surprise 46-32, 51-47, 51-62, 47-32 win over Vijay Kumar of Chennai.
