Geetanjali downs St. Joseph’s

HYDERABAD: Geetanjali High School defeated St. Joseph’s Public School (Koti) 21-16 to enter the boys semifinals of the Rev. Fr. Devasia inter-schools basketball championship for boys and girls at St. Patrick’s School here on Tuesday.

With playmaker K. Sishir giving him admirable support, Shivtej (10) the top-scorer and Sai who scored eight points, had the liberty to consistently attack and score points when it mattered most for Geetanjali.

Boys: St. Patrick’s HS 24 (Vishal 10) bt Niraj Public School 18 (Prudhvishwar 10); Geetanjali High School 21 (Shivtej 10) bt St. Joseph’s Public School, Koti, 16; Kennedy VB 19 bt St. Andrews HS 18 (Pranav 10); Hyderabad Public School 27 (Venu 12, Mukesh 10) bt IRS 12;

Girls: St. Pious HS 23 (Swetha 10) bt St. Joseph’s Public School, Habsiguda, 12; Hyderabad Public School 26 (Monika 20) bt St. Andrew’s HS 23 (Asra 15); St. Antony’s HS 25 (Sapna 10, Monica 10) bt Niraj PS 12; Holy Family 22 (Shruthi 10) bt Delhi PS 10.

Baig hits hundred

A century by Mirza Maqbool Baig (115) was the highlight for Vijay Hanuman in it’s drawn encounter against MCC in the A-Division (two-day) league cricket championship match. Today’s play was abandoned due to slushy outfield following overnight rains.

The scores:

A-Division (two-day): Vijay Hanuman 353 for four (Sangram Reddy 42, Sami Ansari 65, Mirza Maqbool Baig 115, Sheikh Shakir 52, Mirza Ayub Baig 62) drew with MCC.

Central Excise 224 for nine (Mohsin Ahmed four for 36) drew with Ours (play abandoned).

D-Division (one-day) league: Time CC 117 for nine (Nayeem 51) lost to Shanti CC 118 for four.

Inter-district kabaddi

The 56th Senior inter-district kabaddi championship for men and women for Girish Kumar Sanghi Challenge Trophy will be held in Hayathnagar near Hyderabad from August 6 to 9. The performances here will be the basis to pick the State teams for the Senior Nationals to be held in Puducherry from September 12 to 14. — Principal Correspondent
