Cricket tournament to be held from August 7 to 9

TIRUCHI: The Indian Overseas Bank-M. CT. M. Chidambaram Chettiar Birth Centenary T20 cricket tournament will be conducted from August 7 to 9.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, the Deputy General Manager and Chief Regional Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, Renuka Mohan Rao, said the three-day tournament would organised as part of the birth centenary celebrations of the founder of the bank M. CT. M. Chidambaram Chettiar.

Twenty teams, four from each of the five divisions of the Tiruchi District Cricket Association (TDCA), would compete in the tournament, which would be held in four venues – Bishop Heber College, JJ College of Engineering and Technology, National College and Southern Railway Institute.

The winning team would receive a cash award of Rs. 8,000 and the runners-up Rs. 4,000.

Special awards – ‘Best Batsman,’ ‘Best Bowler,’ ‘Best Fielder,’ ‘Best All-Rounder’ and ‘Man of the Tournament’ – would be given to outstanding performers in the tournament.

“We will also be conducting volleyball and basketball tournaments in the coming months. The volleyball tourney would he held in Lalgudi in September,” Ms. Renuka said.

The TDCA secretary K.G. Muralidharan said that the T20 tournament would be a platform for the young cricketers of the district to showcase their talent.
