Testing centre for HIV-hit prisoners

TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu State Aids Control Society (TANSACS) will soon set up a Rs.2.9-lakh Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) at the Central Prison here .

The society has disbursed Rs.66,000 to the authorities to purchase needle destroyer, centrifuge, computer with an uninterrupted power supply equipment, sample carrier, test tube rack and a refrigerator. It will have a separate waiting hall, counselling room and a laboratory. Modifications are being carried out in a building near the prison hospital. The centre will have a counsellor and a lab-technician. Similar centres would be set up in Cuddalore, Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai, Vellore and Palayamkottai.
