No question of recalling J&K Governor, says Pranab

NEW DELHI: Expressing deep concern over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of more than a month-long violent agitation triggered by the Amarnath shrine land row, an all-party meeting here on Wednesday appealed for restoration of peace in the State.
Briefing reporters at the end of nearly four-hour long meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee ruled out recall of Governor N. N. Vohra. “There is no question of recalling the governor,” he said when asked about it as such a demand had been made by the Congress leaders of the State.
Mr. Mukherjee said the meeting suggested immediately initiating the process of a dialogue that would facilitate the suspension of the agitation and its peaceful resolution.
“The all-party meeting was of the unanimous view that an environment must be created where the agitation could be suspended and the issues resolved through the process of dialogue,” he said while reading out the statement adopted at the meeting.
Asked about the timing of the dialogue with the protesters in Jammu, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who was also present at the briefing, said that details were being worked out and talks would be held immediately.
