BHUBANESWAR: After a series of hiccups, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) on Wednesday finally prepared the schedule of counselling for admission into private medical colleges which would begin from August 12 at the Assembly Hall of Orissa University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT). The schedule was prepared with minimal time in hand in the wake of the stringent guidelines of Medical Council of India (MCI) which said if second round of counselling was not completed by August 28, MCI could derecognise the medical admissions. The counselling would be done for 300 seats for MBBS courses available in Hitech Medical College, Kalinga Institute for Medical Science and Institute of Medical Sciences. Over 19,000 candidates are expected to take part in the counselling which would continue from August 12 to August 26. JEE Vice-Chairman Sitaram Mohapatra said detail information about the counselling would be posted on websites and advertised in most national and vernacular dailies. The candidates were given a seven days time to report to JEE authorities for seeking admission into various medical colleges. BDS coursesMoreover, counselling would be conducted for 60 seats in BDS courses available in Gandhi Dental Colleges. Other medical colleges have not received the clearance from MCI in this regard. JEE authorities had already faced wrath of parents and candidates when medical counselling was suddenly postponed on July 12 as private medical colleges had not received approval letters from union health ministry. Candidates, who then came from far away places complained that they had not been informed in advance. But under present circumstances, there was little scope of candidates responding to call letters and subsequently booking their tickets for Bhubaneswar. Dr. Mohapatra said JEE heavily relied on announcements to be posted on websites and news items to be appeared in newspapers and televisions. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
