CHENNAI: The Highways Department and the National Highways Authority of India have hammered out a joint working mechanism to expedite road expansion projects. The NHAI will undertake widening of the four-lane road between Tambaram and Tindivanam to six-lane carriageway covering over 100 km and catering to the growing vehicular traffic. Giving details of his meeting with the Gokul Ram, Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India, K Allaudin, State Highways Department Secretary, told The Hindu that to expedite the resettlement of families affected by the Ennore Expressway project, 1,834 new slum tenements have been constructed in a land allotted by All India Radio in the Thiruvottiyur Municipality limits. “We are confident that within the next three months, the remaining utility services connections, including water supply, sewerage, and electricity connection will be made available for the displaced families to move to the new tenements”, Mr. Allaudin added. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
