HYDERABAD: A century by southpaw D. Rushi Raj (169, 223 balls, 20x4, 3x6) and a good knock by captain N. Arjun Yadav (72, 102 balls, 8x4, 2x6) helped Hyderabad post a challenging 367 for nine on the first day of the two-day third round match against Vidarbha in the Coromandel King all-India Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup invitation cricket tournament at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal) here on Wednesday. The only Vidarbha bowler who could make some impact was leg-spinner Viraj Kadbe (five for 81). In another match, India star Robin Uthappa hit a stroke-filled 96 (76 balls, 11x4, 3x6) to enable Karnataka score 207 for four in 56 overs against Uttar Pradesh after play began in the post-lunch session as wet ground conditions delayed the start and the match was reduced to 72 overs each. First day’s play in the other two matches – Tamil Nadu vs Punjab and Assam vs Madhya Pradesh – was abandoned without a ball being bowled as the venues were not fit for play. The scores: At Uppal: Hyderabad 367 for nine in 90 overs (D. Rushi Raj 169, N. Arjun Yadav 72, Viraj Kadbe five for 81) vs Vidarbha. At Vijayanand Gardens: KSCA 207 for four in 56 overs (Robin Uthappa 96, K. B. Pawan 38, Chelvaraj 41 batting) vs Uttar Pradesh. — Principal Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
