700 students take part in drawing, poetry contests

TIRUCHI: Commitment of the future generation to a peaceful world is certain, going by the keenness with which hundreds of school students took part in a competition titled ‘No War Anymore’.

Over 700 students from over 30 schools from different parts of the district took part in the drawing, poetry writing and essay writing competitions at the Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Matriculation School.

More participants

According to N. Manimekalai, president of the Tamil Nadu Science Forum, Tiruchi, which organised the event, the number of participants literally doubled this year owing to the awareness activities that the Forum has been carrying out over the years.

The students expressed in their works the devastating impact of the atom bombs in in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 that claimed over two lakh lives.

The debilitating psychological impact is still felt, vice-president of TNSF, Tiruchi S. Natarajan said at a function.

Winners to be honoured

The prize winners will be honoured by Collector T. Soundiah later in the week during National Science Congress at the same venue. ]

The prize-winners will also be eligible to participate in the State-level competition, Prof. Manimekalai said.

A. Duraisami, Administration In-Charge, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Educational Institutions, Perambalur; A.G. Palani of Lions Club, Srirangam; J. Jaquelin Immaculate, Principal, and K. Velumani, Vice-Principal were among the other speakers.
