TIRUCHI: The 21st anniversary of Tamil Nadu Government Cooperative Employees Association was celebrated here on Wednesday with the hoisting of the association flag at the office of the joint registrar of cooperative societies. Speaking on the occasion, the president of the Tiruchi district unit of the Association, S. Mathivanan, explained the key role played by the Tamil Nadu Arasu Oozhiyar Sangam and its affiliated body The Tamil Nadu Government Cooperative Employees Association in the success of the employees’ strike in 1988 and 2003. These agitations brought lot of benefits to the employees. The Association has dedicated itself to work for the welfare of the working class. Association State secretary K. K. Selvaraj said that by striking work in 1988, the Sangam managed to get salary on par with the Central employees. He also explained the various benefits achieved by the Cooperative Employees Association by holding regular negotiations with the government. R. Narayanasami of the Labour Department, A. Aruldoss of Retired Government Employees Association, D.
