Homage to Syama Sastri

The Aradhana Committee of the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival has undertaken the task of raising funds to help the family of the descendents of Sri Syama Sastri. The family’s plight was brought to the notice of the general public by a reporter o f The Hindu two months ago.

The Aradhana committee decided to help the family members through general fundraising. The Tamil weekly Kalki also took up this issue. With the result, the Aradhana Committee has raised about two lakhs of rupees so far. The Aradhana Committee aims to raise, with the support of public, at least Rs. 10 lakhs so that a trust fund can be established to help educate their children. Contributions may be sent to The Aradhana Committee, 3, Royal Enclave, Adyar, Chennai 600 020. Checks/drafts should be in the name of “Aradhana Committee.” As a homage to Syama Sastri, a public function will be held at the Music Academy on August 9, 5:30 p.m. will preside over the function. The family members of the descendants of Sri Syama Sastri will also be present. The event will also feature rendering of Syama Sastri’s compositions by eminent musicians.
