MADURAI: Adequate quantity of fertilizers, including Di-ammoninum phosphate (DAP), has been stocked in Madurai district to cater to the 18,874 hectares of standing crops. In a statement, Collector S.S. Jawahar said that 3,800 tonnes of fertilizers were available during July-end. The monthly requirement of fertilizers were calculated in May and the indent given to the fertilizer manufacturers. A total of 3,500 tonnes of urea, DAP, Superphosphate, potash, ammonium sulphate and complex were available in July and another 2,000 tonnes arrived during the month. Stating that 1,700 tonnes of fertilizers were utilised during July and adequate quantity for the requirement of August were available, the release said. A total of 416 tonnes of DAP were available in the primary agricultural cooperative banks besides the 500 more tonnes kept as buffer stock with TANFED to meet emergencies , he added. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
