Tiruchi reigns

TIRUCHI: Host Tiruchi, with 102 points, won the team championship in athletics at the BHEL inter-unit tournament for men here on Thursday. Bhopal (58) and Bangalore (53) secured the second and third spots respectively.

The results: Athletics: 100m: M. Mohan Kumar (Tiruchi); 200m: M. Mohan Kumar; 400m: M. Mohan Kumar; 800m: S. Baskaran (Tiruchi); 1500m: A.K. Tiwari (Bhopal); 5000m: A.K. Saranathan EC posts win

Host Saranathan Engineering College defeated JJ CET 3-1 to win the title at the Anna University Zone-8 inter-collegiate tennis tournament in Tiruchi.

The results: Final: Saranathan EC bt JJ CET 3-1. (M. Kannan bt R. Saravanan 7-3; B. Sriram lost to K. Manoj Kumar 1-7; B. Sriram & M. Kannan bt R. Saravanan & K. Manoj Kumar 7-6; B. Sriram bt R. Saravanan 7-6).
