KVS MHSS enters final

Sivakasi: KVS Matriculation HSS, Virudhunagar, and TN PMMN HSS, Dalavaipuram, entered the finals of the Virudhunagar District Boost Trophy inter-school cricket tournament at Sivakasi on Thursday.

The scores (semifinals): SHNV HSS 94 in 25 overs (Marimuthu three for 19) lost to TN PMMN HSS, Dalavaipuram, 97 for five in 15 overs; KVS HSS, Virudhunagar, 126 in 27.1 overs (Balamurugan 25, Rajapandi 25, Sivaram Harish three for 23, Jeyaram three for 20) lost to KVS MHSS 130 for seven in 16.2 overs (Sivaram Harish 32).

At Ramanathapuram (pre-quarterfinals): SSAM Govt. HSS, Thiruppulani, 179 in 23 overs (Umer 57) bt MG Public Matric. School, Peravoor, 75 in 13.1 overs (Palanikumar five for 21, Liaquat Ali three for 10); Syed Ammal MHSS 66 in 14.2 overs (Yuvaraj three for 14) lost to National Academy HSS 67 for one in six overs; Schwartz MHSS 60 in 13 overs (Fahad five for 17, Ferozkhan three for 15) bt Govt. HSS, Pudumadam 56 in 14.1 overs (Mohamed Yaseen three for 10, Balamanivannan four for 17, SriVaikunth three for eight); Govt. HSS, Vannangundu 121 in 21.5 overs (Madhankumar five for 18) bt Syed Ammal HSS 108 in 17.5 overs (Kamaleswaran four for 20).

Host Thiagarajar College of Engineering beat PSNA College of Engineering, Dindigul, 3-1 for the women’s title in the final of the Anna University zone IX inter-collegiate table tennis tournament at Madurai on Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, PSNA College of Engineering won the men’s title defeating Sethu Institute of Technology 3-0 for the title at Vikram College of Engineering.

The results: Women: final: TCE bt PSNA 3-0 (Rippu Gupta bt Ruby 11-4, 11-3, 11-5; Purnima lost to Ishravai 9-11, 9-11, 9-11; Ananda Pandy bt Arthi Fathema 11-8; 11-6, 11-9; Rippu Gupta bt Ishravai 11-1, 11-3, 11-1).

Third place: KLN CE, Pottapalayam bt Pandyan Saraswathy Yadava EC 3-0.

Men: Final: PSNA EC bt SIT 3-0 (Sriram bt S. Lingeswaran 11-4, 13-11, 7-11, 11-5; Shanmuga Vignesh bt K. Gangadharan 11-4, 11-3, 11-5; M. Thirumalai Vignesh bt P. Vinoth Kiran 11-7, 15-17, 11-4, 9-11, 13-11).

Third place: TCE bt KLN CE 3-0.

Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, retained the title defeating Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, Krishnankovil 3-0 in the final of the Anna University zone X inter-collegiate table tennis tournament at Sowdamligai College of Engineering at Aruppukottai recently.

The results: Final: Mepco CE bt AK CE 3-0 (A. Stephen bt Deepak 14-12, 5-11, 12-10, 11-8; Pratheep bt Madhusudhanan 11-6, 16-14, 11-8; Ramkumar bt Rohit 11-2, 11-6, 11-4).

Third place: Sivanthi Adithanar CE, Tiruchendur bt Govt. EC, Tirunelveli 3-2.

Sree Jaya Jothi Cements 21st Tamil Nadu State under-13 chess championship for boys and girls organised by VDCA got off to a smooth start at Kamarajar Kalyana Mandapam, Rajapalayam on Thursday.

All the seeded players, as expected, had easy times against their opponents and moved into the second round.
