Sairam hits 104

BANGALORE: Sairam’s 104 (69 balls, 13x4) helped Frank Anthony Public School (FAPS) record a 91-runs win over Carmel HS (Padmanabhanagar) in the quarterfinals of the Nazeer Memorial inter-school T20 cricket tournament here on Thursday.

Presidency (Nandini Layout) 176 for one in 20 overs (Nischal 78 n.o, Vijay 68) bt Carmel HS (Basaveshwaranagar) 93 for six in 20 overs; JIRS 91 for six in 17 overs (Saha 38 n.o.) lost to Miranda HS 92 for one in 16.3 overs (Dheeraj 54 n.o.); FAPS 172 for four in 20 overs (Sairam 104, Dhanush 57) bt Carmel HS, Padmanabhanagar 81 for nine in 20 overs (Chandrashekar 31).

Yogesh excels

An all-round performance by K.N. Yogesh (44 and five for 36), helped Yuvaraja’s College, Mysore to register a 45-run win over Mohan’s XI in the Sri Gopalaswami memorial cricket tournament in Mysore on Thursday.

The scores:

Yuvaraja’s College 124 in 13.5 overs, inclusive of 20 penalty runs (K.N. Yogesh 44, Rohith six for 46) bt Mohan’s XI 79 in 14.2 overs (K.N. Yogesh five for 36); FUCC 196 in 49.4 overs beat AT & S, Nanjangud 106 in 32.5 overs.

W. Railway triumphs

Western Railway, Mumbai, with 18 points from six rounds won the team championship in the 21st all-India Railway chess championship in Hubli on Thursday.

Although it lost to Northern Railway in the final round its points tally was higher than Eastern with 17 and Northern with 16 points which finished second and third.

Meanwhile the individual matches began on Thursday with all the top rated players winning their first games.

Sharath wins title

Sharath Gore of S.D.M. College (Ujire) won the title in the 29th monsoon chess tournament, held recently.

He remained unbeaten scoring seven points from as many rounds.

R. Kaushik (6) of Canara College (Mangalore) finished second, while Mohammed Nizam (6) of St. Philomena College (Puttur) was third.

K.N. Gayathri of Vivekananda College (Puttur) was declared the best woman player of the meet.

Easy for Rozario PU

Rozario PU College (Mangalore) blanked Sarojini Kushe PU College (Mangalore) 3-0 in the Independence Cup football tournament’s PU section in Mangalore on Thursday.

In the Degree section matches, Srinivas College ‘B’ got the better of School of Social Work by the odd-goal in three.
