AIADMK members of Tambaram Municipality ‘conducting’ the council meeting on Thursday.

TAMBARAM: With most of the councillors belonging to different political parties staying away from a routine meeting of Tambaram Municipality, those belonging to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam “conducted a meeting” among themselves on Thursday evening.

The meeting was to start at 4.30 p.m. and as a majority of the councillors did not turn up even after thirty minutes, the 13 AIADMK councillors asked Municipal Chairman E.Mani to convene the meeting.

Mr. Mani entered the hall and said the meeting was being put off due to lack of quorum. AIADMK councillors said that in addition to 13 of them, there was one councillor from Pattali Makkal Katchi and including Mr.Mani, a councillor himself, there were 15 of them. The number was enough to conduct a meeting. However, Mr.Mani left the meeting hall, following which L.R.Chezhian, AIADMK town secretary and T.K.M.Chinnaiah, council leader of the party conducted the meeting.

Officials said the meeting was put off and that the proceedings by the AIADMK councillors were of no significance.
