ISKCON children’s festival

Thiruvananthapuram: The Great Indian Heritage 2008, the latest edition of the annual children’s festival organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), will be held here from August 10 to 24.

As many as 3,000 children from 75 schools are expected to participate in the festival this year, according to the ISKCON unit here. The festival is aimed at helping children develop their skills, talent and personality. The programmes will be designed in tune with Indian culture.

This year, the festival is scheduled to be held at the Rengavilasam Art Gallery hall near the Transport Bhavan in the Fort area. The event includes painting, drawing, quiz and heritage contest. There will be separate competitions for different age groups.

The overall best student will receive a free trip to the ISKCON world headquarters in Calcutta. The second and third prize winners are eligible for cash awards of Rs.2,500 and Rs.1,000 respectively. The prizes will be given away on August 24 at a function to be held at the Kanakakunnu Palace in connection with Gokulashtami.
