Thiruvananthapuram: Collecting the monthly pension from the government treasury located on the Uppalam Road has always been an ordeal for senior citizens, especially for the arthritic who are forced to stand for hours together. Most of them found the few creaking dirty benches lined up in the waiting area too uncomfortable. The elderly citizens queuing up for their pension can now rest their tired limbs. The old benches have been replaced with new chairs provided by the State Bank of Travancore. At a function organised under the auspices of the Dhanasree Social Circle, Assistant General Manager V. Prabhakaran Nair handed over the chairs to Treasury Director E.K. Prakash. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
