KUDITINI (BELLARY DTISTRICT): Refuting that the Union Government is discriminating against Karnataka in allocation of power, Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Power, has said that the demand for additional power put forth by the State will be met soon. Mr. Ramesh, accompanied by K.S. Eshwarappa, Minister for Energy, and V.S. Acharya, Home Minister, visited the Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS) on Friday to review progress achieved after commissioning of the first 500-MW unit. They also reviewed work on the second 500-MW unit being set up here. Responding to presspersons’ questions, Mr. Ramesh said that Karnataka had requested the Union Government to allocate additional power of 100 MW from the Central Grid to overcome the shortage in the State. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
