CARE accorded ‘deemed university’ status

CHENNAI: The Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE) has been accorded “Deemed to be University” status by the Government of India.

CARE comprises the Chettinad Health and Research Institute and the Chettinad College of Nursing, according to a press note from Chettinad Health City (CHC), founded in 2007 by the Sir Raja Muthiah Chettiar Educational and Charitable Trust. The 600-bed CHC super speciality hospital is credited with performing an adult-to-adult live donor liver transplant and introducing robotics assisted cardiac surgery.

CARE, now a Deemed to be University under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, has announced the commencement of academic programmes for 2008-09.
