Taslima whisked away

NEW DELHI: Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen returned here on Friday morning, after spending more than four months in Sweden.

The writer, who has been at the receiving end of Islamic fundamentalists, was whisked away by security agencies to an undisclosed destination on her arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Ms. Nasreen, whose Indian visa is reportedly valid till August 12, has not disclosed her future plans.

The writer, who shot to fame with her controversial books “Lajja” and “Dvikhandita,” has been requesting permanent residentship in the country.

In November last, the writer was bundled out of West Bengal following protests. She left India on March 18 this year for Sweden, after she was kept in an undisclosed address in Delhi for more than four months.

Earlier, Ms. Nasreen said she would like to stay in Tripura when she returned to India if she was not allowed to stay in Kolkata.
