HYDERABAD: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided to postpone the final of the AFC Challenge Cup featuring India and Tajikistan and the third-place play-off match between DPR Korea and Myanmar scheduled to be held here on Sunday at the GMC Balayogi Stadium. This decision was taken after an inspection of the two venues by the officials of the AFC President’s Cup and the Challenge Cup Organising Committee on Saturday and found the conditions unfit for play. In view of the unplayable ground conditions in Hyderabad, both at the Lal Bahadur Stadium (venue of the third place play-off match) and the Balayogi Stadium (venue of the final) because of continuous heavy downpour since last 24 hours, the AFC has decided to inspect the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi on Sunday. Both these matches would be played on August 13 if AFC finds the Ambedkar Stadium suitable to host the games. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
