Bangalore: The small scale industries in the State, which are already struggling to survive in a competitive environment, have been severely affected by the frequent power shutdown. The frequent power cuts have affected their production. Many of the units are catering to the export market and several units are engaged in manufacturing intermediate parts and components required by strategic industries, a press release from Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association said. The release added that the small industries are craving for exemption from power cut as they are already in a bad shape, consequent of the steep increase in input cost and non-availability of skilled labour. The association has urged the Government to take into consideration the concerns of the small scale industries. It has also appealed the Government to honour its commitment, maintain its credibility, and purchase power from outside the State to alleviate the problems faced by the people. The association has urged the Government to exempt the small scale industries from the power cut during the working hours, i.e., between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
