Seminar on traditional knowledge

BHUBANESWAR: Scientists and academicians should strive for documentation of traditional knowledge because indigenous people were changing their lifestyle and the younger generation was reluctant to carry the wisdom forward, said speakers at a seminar on Monday.

Addressing the meet on Traditional Knowledge, Director of Department of Industrial Policy and promotion T. C James said 80 per cent of population in developing countries depended on traditional wisdom. Head of the Global Intellectual Property Issues division in World Intellectual Property Organisation A. Taubman said many communities were taking part in recording their traditional knowledge. S. K Mitra, Assistant Controller of Patents and Designs, Amitabh Chakroborti, Assistant Controller and Shyam Kumar Barik of Patent Office, and P. K Nanda, Scientist of Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology were present.
