Call to support strike on Aug. 20

Staff Reporter

‘Spiralling inflation, costly education have their impact on the common man’

Kakinada: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of employees, teachers and workers has called for support to the proposed all-India strike on August 20 to exert pressure on the Central and State Governments, according to a press release from JAC district president A. Rama Rayudu. .

The strike should serve as a warning to the Central Government that has taken up certain policy decisions without assessing their negative impact on the working class, Mr. Rayudu said.

The proposal to privatise pension funds was one such step. The State government’s attempts to commercialise education do not augur well for the students who were in dire need of quality education.

Inflation has made the people’s lives miserable but a few measures were being taken to check the rising prices.

He alleged that conscious efforts were being made to weaken the trade union movement to pave the way for multi-national companies to carry on their businesses smoothly without being mired in labour laws.

Pressure should be mounted on the government to shelve proposals that would result in the deterioration of living conditions of the common man, Mr. Rayudu said.

Scooter rally

The JAC president said a scooter rally would be taken out here on August 18 to mobilise support for the strike. .
