NEW DELHI: To fast-track development works in individual wards, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has proposed to create a four-member committee to prepare local area development plans for all 272 municipal wards in the city after conducting surveys to ascertain the amount of civic work needed to be taken up. The proposal was announced by Leader of the House in MCD Subhash Arya on Tuesday. “We plan to compile a survey of existing amenities in each ward such as the number of hospitals, schools, community halls, dispensaries, roads and drains among others”. “This survey would be compiled by a four member committee comprising a junior engineer, area councillor and one representative each from the Architecture and Town Planning Department,” he added. “On the basis of the survey undertaken in each ward, a list of development works and schemes to be undertaken in the coming four years would also be compiled so that budget provision for the same could be sanctioned accordingly and the scheme can be implemented,” he added. Emphasising the importance of the local area plans over the zonal plans, Mr. Arya said: “The zonal plan drafted by the Delhi Development Authority cannot be implemented without implementing the local area development plans first.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
